A Narrative Review of Studies on the Syntax-Lexical Semantics Interface: With Special Reference to the Chinese Language

In microlinguistics, the syntax-lexical semantics interface is a key research area that focuses on interaction between lexical properties of predicates and related syntactic structures. This paper provides an overview main studies in published internationally past four decades, categorizing them into three major groups approaches (the Projectionist, Constructionist, interactive). It also offers critical reflection field suggestions for future research. Two recent trends are highlighted: (1) empirical with evidence from neurocognitive experiments; (2) emphasis shifting first language (L1) to second (L2) acquisition eye linguistic typology special interest Chinese, typological significance. We hold Projectionist theory or approach could be used explain differences among verbs whereas Constructionist may more suitable explaining realization different argument structures same verb. The interactive dynamic seems have strongest explanatory power, which supported by increasing body evidence.
